We Need to Talk About Kevin is about a mother who hates her family life and her son who has been an annoying kid since little. Looking at Eva, the society will find the mother quite irresponsible and impatient with her kid, so she has to take all the blames. However, the film aims to draw attentions to Eva’s personal struggle as a woman, or more likely, a human being and encourages the viewers to think critically without being restricted to what the society tells them. It really cultivates an empathetic experience, from which the viewers learn about how to understand an individual before giving any unfair judgements and learn to know that nobody is supposed to live a life that the society says is right if that life is miserable.
